Artery clogging increases with the increase in the age and therefore it is very important that we keep a microscopic eye on our cholesterol levels before it is too late to change the events happening.
However, there are some easy tips that you can implement to keep yourself out of the trouble.
The first thing that you should do is get your cholesterol levels checked. This is very important because you can never win the war against diseases unless you know where you stand and how much you need to fight. If your LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) is somewhere around 160 then you are at a much greater risk, you might be stand an average chances if your LDL count is 130 and your risk factor may be very low if your LDL count is around 70. In other words, LDL is a bad cholesterol and it is better that the LDL numbers always remain low on your health reports. On the other hand, your HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) which is good cholesterol should be over 60 and anything less than 40 is not good for your health.
Try to modify your lifestyle and try to avoid smoking and try to exercise regularly to bring down the weight level. This is very important because you need to get your health back on track before these cholesterol levels blocks out your breath forever.
Avoid food products with saturated fat. There are misconceptions that eggs can lead to high cholesterol levels but it has been studied that eggs do not increase the cholesterol levels to such an extent. Hence, you can certainly have eggs occasionally.
Fiber rich foods are your best friend because they cut down the cholesterol levels. Hence, food items like whole grains, fruits, green vegetables, and fish is something you should look out for when you are hungry. You can even go for food items like beans and barley if you enjoy them. The American Heart Association recommends having fish because it contains omega-3 fatty acids that can churn down all your cholesterol levels quickly.
If you like something to nibble all the time then go for walnuts, nuts and almonds as they also have omega-3 fatty acids that can help to bring down your cholesterol levels.
